Emergency Response

ProBoard Evaluation - Technical Rope Rescue

Course Summary

Test yourself against the NFPA 1006 Standard.

A ProBoard Evaluation tests candidates against the NFPA 1006 Standard for Technical Rescuer Professional Qualifications as outlined by the ProBoard Fire Service Professional Qualifications System (or “ProBoard”), an international accreditation system for fire service organizations.

Raven Rescue offers training for the following NFPA Professional Qualification levels:

  • Technical Rope Rescue
  • Confined Space Rescue
  • Structure Collapse
  • Surface Water Rescue
  • Swiftwater Rescue
  • Watercraft Rescue
  • Floodwater

ProBoard certification to the levels of Swiftwater Rescue Technician and Rope Rescue Technician is provided by the District of North Vancouver District Fire and Rescue Services, a ProBoard accredited testing agency in BC.  To ensure an unbiased third-party assessment, the Evaluator may not have previously provided training to any of the candidates. The testing includes both practical and written skills and is done according to strict protocols and testing methods. It is a pass or fail format, and therefore proper preparation is strongly recommended (see below).

Options for Departments

Departments have two options. First, they can choose to have their members challenge the ProBoard Evaluation, based on technical rope rescue training previously acquired. Alternatively, they can also choose to host a Technical Rope Rescue - Technician course (TRR-Tech) with the express purpose preparing their members for the Evaluation. Evaluations can be scheduled to immediately follow training, or the Evaluation can be scheduled at a later date to allow time to for review and practice.

The advantage to providing candidates with our TRR - Tech course prior to Evaluation is that our partnership with North Vancouver Fire and Rescue ensures our Instructors are well-versed in the ProBoard testing process (both written and practical) including content covered and criteria used for evaluation, and so can ensure candidates are better prepared than is possible with other training providers.

To host a course or schedule an Evaluation, please contact us.

Options for Individuals

Individual firefighters who are interested in achieving a ProBoard certification can also choose to challenge a ProBoard Evaluation based on previous training, but we recommend that they first take our Technical Rope Rescue -Technician course in order to be as well prepared as possible. Please keep an eye on our Schedule for upcoming public Evaluations, or sign up for our e-news to get updates to your In Box.

Making it Official

Upon successful completion of the Evaluation, candidates will receive their ProBoard “stamp” from North Vancouver District Fire Services and then their name will be submitted to ProBoard where it is registered in the ProBoard Fire Service Professional Qualifications System online qualifications database used by many employers to check individual firefighter credentials.

Other ProBoard Evaluations

We also host ProBoard evaluations for Swiftwater Rescue Technician, which includes technical rope components. (According to NFPA Standards, swiftwater rescue technician certification requires technician-level rope rescue skills in order to perform the range of rescues often required in swiftwater situations.) Scarab Rescue Tool

The Scarab® represents five years of research and testing by Rick Lipke and the design team at Conterra. It was born out of the need for a small, simple device that could easily control heavy rescue loads, as well as excel at pick offs, twin rope systems and other general rescue techniques. The Scarab® does all this and more.

Craig was thorough and he didn't let any student fall behind. He took the time to instill good habits. I knew very little but I feel much more confident now!
